This week-long festival is a gathering of designers from different facets such as architecture, graphic, product, software, sound and interior design. This presents a great opportunity for the public to interact with some of the world s best designers. Design leaders and members of the public will circuit select Kampala venues for over five days of designer labs, fireside talks, city and studio tours.
The week will provide multiple networking opportunities, and in true Ugandan fashion, promises to wrap up with a party.
The Design Festival will run under the theme: DESIGN AND HERITAGE; How can we use our past and present lived experience to design more sustainable solutions for the Afrikan future?
We are driven by a passion for better design, designers and influencing the public’s perception to design. We achieve this by working with institutions and individuals alike through the provision of opportunities for exchanges, mentorship and market research.
In line with our mentorship and exchanges mandate, we are proud to announce that this year, Kampala Design Week is the successful recipient of the British Council Uganda 2019 Grants to Biennales and Festivals (Architecture, Design and Fashion) supporting a new collaboration and workshop programme with Adengo Architecture and UK architects NEON
Additionally, the opening night of Kampala Design Week will host a British Council East Africa Arts Creative Hustle event.
This will also be the night that the curators of the design week share their plans for the week so people can pick and choose which events to be part of.
Together with our amazing partners at Alliance Française Kampala, Uganda Museum, Makerere University, Design without Borders Africa, Faculty of the Built Environment - Nkozi University, Tribe Uganda, Kafunda Kreatives among others, we will execute a beautiful learning and immersive experience for all interested in design.
